The annual Four Schools Orchestra Festival is now in its 5th year of existence. On the 18th of February musicians from OWLAG were again afforded the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with Kingsmead College, Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge as well as St Stithians College in making music together.
The OWLAG Senior Brass Ensemble gave a strong performance with their rich, musical tone after which our Concert Marimba Band joined the orchestra in a swinging rendition of A Tribute to Miriam Makheba. Members of the OWLAG Orchestra then joined forces with the other schools to perform three mass items. Critical Mass, composed by Tod Statler, Chair of the Department of Fine Arts at Eureka High School in Eureka (Illinois), impressed with its driving rhythm and bustling energy. The evergreen Doo Bee Doo by South African band, Freshly Ground, had the audience clapping and singing along while the robust Party like a Russian revealed the true power of the orchestra which consisted of approximately 120 musicians.
Congratulations to all our musicians on an outstanding achievement and for raising the standard of their performances every year.
