On Thursday, 17 May, the Grade 12 Advanced Programme English students, along with two of the Round Square exchange students, travelled to the Western Cape for the 2018 Franschhoek Literary Festival. The weekend was packed with panel talks featuring journalists, radio DJs, celebrities, social media influences, and authors. The events covered a range of current trends and topics, including feminism, politics, medicine, human rights, and education. These book-lovers felt at home in the Franschhoek valley, and, not surprisingly, spent most of their money at the R5-a-book Hospice sale (as a group, we may or may not have brought back a suitcase containing 21.5kg of books). We look forward to attending this festival again next year. In the years to come, we fully expect to see some of our own Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy alumni featured on the panels.
