“I was looking for smart, bright, giving, resilient, kind and open-hearted young girls who had the ‘it’, a factor that means you keep going no matter what”, said Oprah Winfrey, Founder of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (OWLAG) during her commencement address at the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communications and Journalism in May. Ms. Winfrey was on-hand to celebrate the graduation of one of her former OWLAG students, Noluthando Dlomo, who graduated with a Master of Science degree in Journalism, Cum Laude.

Ms. Winfrey also recently attended the graduations of two other OWLAG girls in the United States, Gloria Rapalalani who obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Fashion Marketing and Management, Magna Cum Laude from Savannah College of Art and Design and Thobeka Mnisi who obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics with High Honors, Magna Cum Laude, from Oberlin College. Mnisi was also awarded the prestigious Thomas J. Watson Fellowship for 2018, an incredible opportunity that allows her to travel the world in pursuit of an independent project for an entire year.
