Mathematics Teacher

Applications are invited for the position of Mathematics Teacher

Starting Date: Monday, 1 January 2018

Reports To: Head of Department – Mathematics

Main Responsibilities

  • Create a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
  • Plan the study program so that, as much as possible, it meets the needs, interests and abilities of the students.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Create a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Interact with the students to induce curiosity, motivate, and provoke thinking, imagination and application of the concept taught.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes

  • An appropriate academic qualification and proof of registration with SACE.
  • An established track record of effective teaching. A passion for enquiry based, student-centred learning.
  • A working knowledge of the latest educational trends.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A demonstrated capacity to work effectively in teams.
  • A willingness to participate in the broader life of the Academy and to contribute positively to the ethos, vision and mission of the school.
  • A commitment to personal growth and the development of others.
  • Experience of IEB teaching at Grade 12 level is essential
  • Marking at IEB Grade 12 Level would be an advantage.
  • Experience in teaching the Middle Years Programme (International Baccalaureate) would be an advantage.

Educational Psychologist

Applications are invited for the position of Psychologist

Starting Date: Monday, 1 January 2018

Reports To: Head Psychologist

Department: Wellness


Main Responsibilities

  • Work as a Psychologist within the Psychology Department, Wellness Team and rest of Academy
  • Collaborate with all departments at the Academy
  • Promote the holistic wellbeing and development of all students, academically, psychologically and socially
  • Assist students in managing the transition between home and school
  • Complete specific functions in the (student) recruitment process
  • Assist in preparing students for tertiary studies
  • Work according to the strategic vision of the Academy

Identified Competencies

Technical:

  • Sound understanding and knowledge of girls of school going age
  • Strong evidence based counselling and psychotherapeutic skills
  • Trauma informed understanding
  • Proficiency in administration, scoring and interpretation of psychometric instruments
  • Understanding the challenges facing  girls of today and the implications of this for a school such as OWLAG
  • Ethical and professional orientation at all times

Generic:

  • A sound ability to work within a computerised administrative environment  - intermediate proficiency in MS Word, PPT, Excel, Internet  and Google
  • Good organisational skills, time management and strong administrative skills
  • Sound communication skills
  • Attention to detail necessary as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks

Personal Attributes:

  • A willingness to learn and improve on technical skills (e.g. Smartboard, and Google)

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes

  • Master in Psychology
  • Registration with the HPCSA
  • An up to date CPD Portfolio
  • Minimum of 3 years working with adolescents
  • Experience as a Senior Psychologist
  • Experience working within a school system
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience in working with vulnerable children
  • Experience in working with groups
  • Proficiency in 2 additional South African languages
