Grade 9 Free State Tour

The class of 2022, together with Mr Bean, Mr Radebe, Mrs Mnisi, Ms Pillay, Mrs Pooe and Ms Weideman departed from the school campus at 05:30 for our Free State tour. One would think that the students would have looked like zombies but no, not our current Grade 9 class. They were energetic, excited and anticipating the adventure that awaited them in the Free State.

From the team building activities in Siloam Village to visiting the mall in Bloemfontein, we made immeasurable memories. The visit to the Planetarium in Bloemfontein was simply breath-taking and informative for the students as they entered the universe and discovered so much new information that they were unaware of.

The students had to conquer their fears: touch the fish that they had caught at Siloam Village in the Gariep Dam, climb down the Gariep Dam Wall and crawl through muddy trenches. The girls also left their comfort zones, tried new things and worked with people they had never worked with before as a team.

The visit to Golden Gate National Park and the BaSotho Cultural Village took the whole group through the history of the BaSotho people. It was educational as many in the group were not familiar with the customs of this very special group of people. The tour guide also explained the history of the Golden Gate National Park, the Van Reenen family and the geographical formations in the area.

For many, it may sound as if it was just a visit to the Free State but for the students, it was a roller coaster ride, a journey of happiness that brought us together as a family. The Free State tour was informative, fun, adventurous, and a journey worth remembering.
